Subject: Re: CA glue

I use burnt shellac exclusively for gluing felt or leather to metal. Freshly
made burnt shellac will dry within a very short time. Buy the flakes and add
a small amount of alcohol to make a thick, dripless solution. It can be kept
in an old white-glue (!) bottle.

How do you go about "burning" the shellac to make it thick? How can you
tell it's burnt enough to make a good glue. I've seen this on old pianos
and players, but never had the method explained to me. Thanks
