This statement is basically true for the New York factory. Great  
post. The only thing I seriously question is the statement
"The execution...seems to be deteriorating." I think the quality  
control goes up and down, as it has since 1983.
Some new Steinways I see, usually bigger pianos, are nice. Others are  
not. Heard the new "O's" are nice.
