Question about blackening sharps

1) Strip by dunking heads in gallon paint cans full of
acetone ( wear gas mask ) and brushing with small
brass brush.
2) Stain with water based stain.
3)Wipe on polyurethane wipe-on satin gloss finish.
(2 coats, rubbed between coats with green
"scotchbrite" pads.
4) Buff final coat with blue "scratch-free" pad, to
get slight satiny feeling that pianists like.

I agree with Terry that un-stained ebony looks very
nice, but you DO waant to finish the wood, to protect
it from acidic "finger-goo" and, sometimes, staining
is what the customer prefers.
