I assume you are being facetious about forceps and tweezers, etc? After all, Walther copies (though that is probably a Stein-like or at best a Walther/Stein/Belt hybrid...I don't think Philip made any Walther copies) have huge wires compared to harpsichords, e.g. In any case, hitchpin loops are incredibly easy to make in fp or harpsichord wire. You don't have to wrestle it like you do piano wire! Also, since you can change a wire in an fp or harpsichord in 5 minutes no sweat, why would you bother to splice it unless you were out of the right size wire? But yes, you could splice it.
