dealers

I see it this way: you, the tech, stand a greater chance of staying in business much longer than the average piano dealer. You do what you need to keep your business alive and viable. If dealer work is something of a necessity in order to make ends meet, then make the necessary concessions to keep your relationship positive. If you don't need the dealer's work, then call the shots how it best suits your needs.
Don't get me started on (some) dealer's attempt to posture their will upon us. Many view us an annoyance rather than a resource for increasing sales and profits. And when they start claiming that our prices are absurdly high, claiming that we are ripping off the public, I draw a firm line in the sand and stand my ground. I had a recent incident which still makes my blood boil!!! The nerve of some of these dealers. Thank God for the some of the ethical dealers who strive to go the extra mile to keep the customer and technician happy
Unfortunately, those are far and few between.

  Rick,
tell the dealer to go to hell! Last time I checked we are free to do what we want. Its not like you have a contract with the guy. Its to bad that some of these dealers think they are god. More and more dealers act like dope pushers or mobsters these days!

    List,
How would you feel about a dealer who told you that were not Allowed to sell a used piano which you repaired etc. ? Said dealer is sending about $6-7,000 yr. in direct work and referrals, only after their previous tuner retired.
