Tuner's note in piano -funny

Hey Terry,
While I would not rebuild a piano like this, I don't think it would be a waste of time if the client understood the potential value verses repair cost imbalance. Most of my major rebuilds come from an inheritance. You have just inherited Grammy's piano along with her million dollar house. I live in California and that is not an exaggeration. Exactly what are you going to do with her Worthlesszer that is rusty, ruined and in need of everything? It's landfill. If I were the client, I would talk a competent rebuilder into taking on the project and would not worry about spending 5 figures to have Grammy's piano beautiful and playable again, but that's just me. I'd do the same thing if it were a 62 Rambler, it's a way of turning a little what she has left you into the restoration of something she had. I need to have respect for that. The only reason I wouldn't take the job is it would distract me from doing other pianos I'm more interested in, but I tell people all the time there are only 2 choices, fix it or throw it away. Now if it is a S&S or other piano with obvious head room in value verses repair cost I tell them "You may not restore this piano, but someone will."

It was one of the prettiest vertical pianos I have ever seen. Just beautiful. Looked like it belonged in the 1950s living room of Judy and George Jetson.

Frank Lloyd Wright or someone like that must have designed that case. It's just too cool.

And from the service perspective, all those outer "case" parts that hinge back, also the hinges allow one to easily lift the "case" appendage completely off the piano frame (you don't even have to remove the pin). In about two minutes you can have nothing but a backframe, pinblock, soundboard, plate and keybed. So cool.

You know, as techs we get pretty jaded and forget some of the beautiful styling in pianos, at least I do. I just love the looks of that piano and remember how I liked the other one I've seen, after I quit cursing it's ancestry for the hard time I had getting into it, as I remember it really was in terrible shape. Anyway, that piano's look is right up my address, even if it is a PoS musically, or is it PSO, I guess it depends on who you're hanging out with, although after you finished with it, Terry, I'll bet it was very nice.
