Bob,

Thanks. What I don't understand is the bass hammer angle is established. Do you tilt the drill press table?

I have the Renner jig, and like the accuracy it offers, but was curious about little gem.

I picked this up at a chapter tool swap. I'm the third owner and it's never been used. It kills me to flaunt my ignorance, but what is it, and how does it work?

Dave,

It's a hammer head boring jig. Clamped in a drill press vise, it holds a hammer head at an angle set by the gauge you see on the round part, and a rake adjusted by pivoting the little sticky-outy part (which is also where the hammer rests.

The Renner head boring jig is more elegant, but I have drilled many many sets on one of the Brooks jigs. I use it for grand hammers, but I suppose you could use it for verticals by setting the travel of the drill press quill.
