Roger,
I'm thinking this may be the solution I may end up using if the action does
not settle like I hope. I had a feeling that the stretcher wasn't going to
come out, it really felt solid. I just wish that I could explain what the
actual cause of the problem is. I like to address the disease, rarher than
the symptom.
Thanks for the information.

Hi Dave,
All of the Heintzman's I have encountered, the stretcher is
both glued and doweled to the rim/casework.
A solution to the problem would be to block sand a small amount of material
off the bottom of the stretcher.
If carefully done you should be able to get the clearance with out damaging
the finish. A Palm sander would be the way to go in the shop, but the
client may not like the dust in the home.
