Hello list, hope to see many of you at CSUS for this event.

In May, the New Hampshire Chapter of the PTG sponsored a new event - an all day class presented by Del Fandrich RPT on soundboard design and construction.
It is the pleasure of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the PTG to sponsor this event again on the west coast.
The class is open to piano technicians of all levels of experience as well as non technicians.
Attendees will be able to leave at the end of the day with a broad understanding of how soundboards do what they do to make beautiful music.
Topics to be covered include:
Tonewoods - how woods are selected, processed and assembled into soundboard panels. Wood as an engineering material. Acoustic properties of wood.
The effect of soundboard thickness, shape, grain angles and tapering on piano tone.
Ribs - what they do and how they are designed. Soundboard and rib crown and how to size ribs. Mechanics of the soundboard system. Types of soundboard crowning systems.
The relationship between soundboard crown and string bearing and how this affects piano tone. Practical methods of setting downbearing on new and old soundboards.
The effect of the bridges and the mounting system.
All this and much more.
