gluing ivories

I do not find the contact cement to be any good at all. It leaves a horrible mess on the key, and the ivory.
Mind you, the person who did the job, might not have been careful.
White glue in conjunction with the C/A has worked well for me.

You can use CA glue. But use the thick stuff and the kicker. Just make sure it's put on correctly the first time, and be sure you don't get any of it on your finger as you're attaching the ivory to the glue. That stuff works very well between skin and ivory. (ask me how I know)

    Hi gang

As one who definitely has more to learn than to instruct, I have a pesky
    problem to share . .

What glue system do you use to re-attach ivory ( heads, usually )
I found out the hard way decades ago that water based glue does not work
with the ivory, as it caus! es it to curl.

What is the most effective way to get them to stay put, especially when on
site with only a few to fix . . ???

Inquiring minds want to know . .

For field repairs I have used contact cement, that's what I was told when I started out eons ago, it's a trifle more forgiving
than CA and less chance you'll glue the ivory or the key to yourself. It does require a little more time though.
