Andrew,

I totally agree. We must also remember, it's the results that count, not necessarily the procedure. I have always believed in the truism, that there is more than one way to skin a cat...........Sorry cat lovers, no offence intended here.

A doctor related to me an incident that happened at a medical conference, in Australia, I understand. This was when doctors were treating peptic ulcers with scope type surgery here in the US. The Aussies in the conference pointed out that they got better results by treating the infection (confirmed by scoping) then what the American doctors were doing which actually -added- surgery complications. The doctor was amused to say that the American proponent of surgery became so incensed that he had to be restrained by his colleagues to prevent an "international incident". ;-)

People passionate about what they do identify closely with what they are doing. Sometimes they don't have the best solution, but approaching them is best done -tactfully- and, with a good eye for the nearest exit! Out of all this -passion- we do get a lot of good information. Occasionally we recognize that different approaches work towards different goals. Witness how most tier-one pianos sound quite distinct from each other.

A thick skin and a great sense of humor (even about yourself) goes a long way towards pleasant survival here.

  Cheers,

    Hi all,
After the excellent suggestion to peruse the archives about all my infantile questions about soundboards, I searched. While a lot of information IS there, it is very difficult to really find. What I DID find was good information, that information attacked, that person attacked, and the thread degrading into insults. It seems like every time someone offered an opinion or technique, he or she was vilified eventually.
You'd think those people would be more professional.

So....I found this guy's page. It answered almost everything I needed to know. Whether it is all correct or not I'm sure I'll find out, but it was interesting SEE it explained.
I wonder if doctors argue like you all!? hah!
