I carry a separate tool bag with the tools that I normally use for tuning along with an extra tool or 4 that I use most often including CLP and my billing pads. Otherwise, it's a trip to the car if something else is required which doesn't happen all that often. Talking to the client for me, is half of the fun but, I usually limit it upon my arrival to talking more afterward. Most of my customers are used to that and just greet me and let me go. I get my tuning stuff set up, get the hygrometer out, I let it start to take its reading while I take EDT readings and then proceed to tune the piano. That is, if any EDT readings are required. I have a lot of my own ear tunings saved in my EDT. All in all, I spend about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes total including talking to the client. Setting up? Probably 10 minutes tops. Includes, greetings, opening the piano, getting everything ready and beginning the tuning. You're not too far off. One important thing to save time, is to have your tools readily accessible and organized. While tuning, keep stuff out of the way so you don't have to continually move something elsewhere. Especially the same tool. Every wasted movement moving something around or out of the way several different times is wasted tuning time. My problem is getting ready to tune a piano. Greeting the customer, getting all the tools I need out of my bag, taking a reading on the temp and hum, taking a reading of the piano for my ETD, writing all the info on their bill, etc, etc. It's taking me about 15 to 20 minutes. What do you all do? How much time does it take everyone to get ready to tune? Am I wasting to much time? Al _____ avast! Antivirus <http://www.avast.com> : Outbound message clean.
