Zoe,
My opinion, if you are going to use a tuning fork, you want a regular
constant source for temperature.  As long as it is consistent it does not
matter what you do.  The armpit will provide consistency for you as your
body does maintain a constant temp.  Calibrate the fork with the armpit and
keep using it.  There are however better electronic sources.  Accufork by Al
Sanderson, calibrated guitar tuners and other piano tuning software.  I
stopped using my fork 20 years ago.
