When I can find my camera ;>) I'll send pics. we have a really nice
cabinet for transporting our 7/8th keyboard to one of our concert grands
here at UNL. I looks sort of like a casket with clamped on collapsable
sides, on a rolling frame. It also makes a nice working table when the
sides are down to work on the action and the action is quite secure.
Unfortunately, the 7/8th keyboard is never used..hence the casket
reference :>)

I can provide measurements if you need. It's very much like your idea.

Otherwise, I've just used an appliance truck with bungies or straps for to
and from car stuff. I have just carried to my car sometimes too, but I
understand the risk factor.

Best,
Paul

[pianotech] Transporting a grand action

I am always afraid of breaking off a hammer, or something dropping on an
action.
I was thinking on making a base with a handle, sides, and a back. The back
portion would have a top to protect the hammers. It would have clamps to
hold the action secure. Made from 1/2" plywood.
Something like 54"X23" X8".
A person, could then transport the action like a suitcase. It could be
laid across folded seats. It could be used for upright actions as well,
with them lying on the back.
I just have the idea now, but haven't started figuring out sizes to
accomaodate most.
Has anyone made something like this?
I know about the one made with a folding golf cart, which is a good idea.
