I'm referring to the stamped letter/number sequence in the treble corner of the plate at the front, e.g. F3456. We generally replace that designation after plate finishing, as well as the serial number in the appropriate place. Does this sound familiar? Paul In a message dated 1/28/2011 2:47:21 A.M. I thought they would be translatable to month and year of manufacture. I don't know about S&S, but I do know that OS Kelly had a formula for deriving the date from their production number, often cast in the bottom side of the plate on grands, sometimes on the exposed face of uprights. It wouldn't surprise me if S&S did the same, but I have no direct knowledge of that. Frank Emerson -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
