Thanks everyone. I'll give it one try. If it doesn't work, I'll take Joe G's suggestion and just leave 2 strings and change the damper. Ron, it broke at the hitch pin loop. I got away with one too, way back when. Used the original string and loop, and spliced in a section across the bridge - two knots. It pulled up just exactly right. Absolute dumb luck, and no witnesses to brag at. Too bad it wasn't a winning lottery ticket instead.
