As a safety precaution, he would like to have the notes that he doesn't actually play (all of the Cs and Ebs, in this case) disabled. The best idea I have come up with so far is to add another front rail cloth punching on top of the one that is already there for these keys, so the keys will barely depress. Is there a better/easier way? Thanks, Alan Eder There's a difference between having the notes not play, and keys not going down. If he doesn't want to have the keys go down, then adding front rail punchings would be the best way to go. But if he doesn't want the notes to play, but still have the key go down, then remove the hammer, shank and flange and add jiffy weights to the back of the keys.
