I have just had the privilege of observing a Kawai MPA install a the new
carbon action in a Shigeru piano at Bobb's pianos in south Florida. I was
impressed on many levels. First, Michio, (The tech's first name), was very nicely
attired in shirt and tie and spoke English rather well. The ease at which he
installed the new whippens and backchecks was poetry in motion.

He altered the front weight on the keys by drilling out some of the lead mass
of the weights being particular about actually weighing the key on a scale as
he progressed. He explained to me the different shape of the checks to
facilitate better repetition and the lighter whippens. He finished off with a
superb tuning and final voicing and regulation. This process took the better part
of a day and a half.

I had fallen in love with this particular Shigeru SK2, (5'10"), when we first
got it in. I could not imagine it sounding or responding better. But lo and
behold,, it has risen even higher in response and sound. It is one of those
pianos that you play and just watch your hands do things you didn't think they
could do. It is truly an inspiring instrument. Hats off to Don and the
Kawai MPA staff! As previously posted,, they are the Phd's of piano technology!
