Hello List
I tune several early square pianos. Many have no iron frame and some are =
dated in the late 1700s. There is a thread about tuning Square Grands. =
Is there any difference between a square piano and a square grand? If it =
is a genuine square piano it will have whale bone damper springs, vellum =
hinges (instead of centres) and the damper wires will be attached =
directly to the end of the key. It may (or may not) have a pedal but may =
have hand selectors within the casework. The wrest pins will be long, =
slender and wrought to a tapered flat to accept the oblong holed 'T' =
hammer. These tuning pins could be either ranged along the back (spine) =
or be in an ordered cluster on the treble end. It will be strung with =
iron (two strings per note) and hit by a doe-skin covered hammer.
