E-mailing reminders

I send out the email below using mail merge every month to about 30-50
people and usually get 10 or so responses. It's worth it to me as it is
really easy to do and costs nothing. I figure the time saved by not having
to call and make appointments more than offsets the $4 discount. I also hit
them with a post card. If they don't respond to either it still brings it to
their attention so that if I do reach them on the phone they've been
thinking about it and often they'll tell me they have been intending to make
the call, so I figure anything you can do to soften them up for the call is
good.

It is time again for your piano to be tuned. By using this email to remind
you, we don't interrupt your dinner with a ringing telephone and it saves us
time trying to catch you at home.

 

Our records show that your piano was last tuned on 12/16/2004. As a special
incentive for you to take advantage of this reminder, we are offering $4 off
our normal tuning price if you respond within the next 30 days to schedule a
tuning appointment by email. The normal tuning price inside of Vigo County
is $XXX and out of county it is $XXX.

 

Here is how it works: just click the reply button in your email reader and
tell us your preference for an appointment time, what day of the week and
whether you need a morning or an afternoon appointment. Try to give us at
least two options. We will then email you back with a firm appointment time.
