For the third consecutive year, Steinway & Sons and Oberlin =20
Conservatory of Music are pleased to offer a Seminar entitled, =20
Concert and Technical Strategies For Institutional Technicians, to be =20=

held the week of July 9-14, 2006, at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in =20=

Oberlin, Ohio.

This Seminar will provide an educational opportunity =20
that is unique in character, content, and practical hands=96on =20
experience in one of the largest and most prestigious music schools =20
in the United States. The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, home to 199 =20
Steinway grand pianos, is Steinway=92s oldest continuous client and has =20=

been an all-Steinway school since 1877.

The seminar will focus on the ways that institutional =20
technicians approach Steinway pianos which are not only under =20
constant use, but which also must meet high-level performance =20

listening to the concert instruments of the Conservatory concert venues.

Each day will begin with a lecture addressing regulating, tuning and =20
voicing in the university setting. Particular attention will be paid =20
to maintaining Steinway & Sons instruments. Each attendee will work =20
on a piano in the school, under supervision of the instructors from =20
both the Conservatory and Steinway & Sons in New York.
Additionally there will be afternoon discussions that will address =20
particular aspects of the institutional technician=92s duties. There =20
will also be evening lectures, musical presentations and social time.

The instructors from Oberlin Conservatory will be; John Cavanaugh, =20
Director of Piano Technology, Robert Murphy Curator of Forte Pianos =20
and Piano Technician and Ken Sloan Director of Piano Technology =96 =20
Emeritus.
