Who needs piano technicians?

I think an article appeared in the Music Trades Magazine several years ago
with an estimate of the piano market ( I may be wrong about where I read
this article). The jist of the article was looking for potential retail
markets. It concluded, among other things, there are about 1 piano per 10
households for any given city (or that potential). Obviously, there are
circumstances that will affect this amount.

With an estimated number of tuner/techs in any area, the ratio of tuners to
pianos came out to about 1:2000. I've never met a tuner that can do 2000
tunings a year-only met a few who do 1000. My point: any metro area will
need your services. Practice! Get good. Get started with a dealer until you
get established. Do some favors. Treat your clientele the way you want to be
treated. Give it a couple of years. You'll have all the work you can handle
and then some
Good luck
