Check to see if one string is muted and the other is not. Tilting the damper head slightly can help this situation or moving the guide rail may be a better approach. Check to see if the front or the back of the damper touches the strings first. Gently depress the damper at each extreme end to see if there is a difference. Is the damper problem as result of the crack or was it there before the crack. Check to see that the ribs are well glued to the board on either side of the crack. Let a damper wire hang down without being in a flange. If it hangs properly that is not the problem. If not carefully think out any changes you make and make double bends if you make any at all.
