Dave,

Thanks for the info. I had searched the archives and found the name of Bill Marciano, same phone number. Has Chad replaced Bill?
The customer couldn't find her warranty papers, couldn't even remember which dealer she bought it from, so I'll just have to see what Weber is willing to do.

Mike

Tuned a Weber WG-50 yesterday, ca. 1992, which appears to be developing growing action bracket syndrome. Several notes starting to block, and the end brackets are very tight in the little pocket that locate them fore-and-aft in the keyframe.

Also had a jack fail during tuning - that finger joint where the tender is attached came apart after a hard test blow. It appeared to have very little glue on it. I understand that if a note is just barely blocking, and you give it a good hard test blow, that could put a lot of strain on the tender and might cause a healthy one to fail. but I also have a vague recollection of hearing that a certain Asian manufacturer had a problem with starved glue joints in this area. So, what do you think? When I approach Weber for the new bracket job, should I also go for breaking and regluing all the jack tender glue joints? Or is it a good bet that, once properly regulated, the jacks will survive as is?

Mike,

I just completed an action bracket job the other day on a Weber WG 60, circa 1996, I believe. NO problems with the jacks, though I have seen failures in upright Weber jacks on numerous occasions.

Contact Chad Frye at (201) 902-0920. He is a contact for Samsung and Meadowlands Music who handles Weber warranty issues. He does it very part time, so be patient in awaiting a response. It took me over 5 months to get replacement brackets, but that was in part due to inavailability during Young Chang's changes.

As far as the jacks, check the warranty and make sure even the brackets and labor involved replacing them are covered. Didn't they have 10 year warrantys....:-( ?

Good luck on this,

Dave Stahl
